Very Balanced
Magnet density (mT) describes the magnetic field strength at each pole and how the pickup interacts with the strings.
Different magnet types have different ranges (e.g. Alnico ~30–65 mT, Ceramic ~60–90+ mT), and some variation is normal — even within the same pickup.
Typical pole-to-pole variation is ~5–15 mT.
Spread describes this:
Lower spread → more even response
Higher spread → more character and dynamics
Slugs → smoother field
Screws → more focused response

VELVET NECK is a balanced, symmetrical humbucker built around two matched 5200-turn coils wound with 42 AWG Heavy Formvar wire. The two coils contribute evenly to the pickup's electrical and magnetic response, creating a coherent series voice with a measured 7.64 kΩ DC resistance and 3.2 H inductance.
Its Alnico 4 bar magnet produces an even magnetic field of approximately 31–35 mT across the pole area. This moderate and consistent field gives the pickup a smooth magnetic response while preserving excellent string definition, touch sensitivity and natural dynamic expression. Alnico 4 is particularly well suited to this design because of its balanced response and ability to allow the character of the guitar and winding to remain prominent.
The measured 138 pF internal capacitance and 3.55 kHz no-load resonance create an open, articulate upper register with a full low end and warm, focused mids. The 5200-turn coils provide a slightly lighter electrical loading than the Bridge version, giving VELVET NECK its more open and airy character.
In series, the matched coils form a smooth and harmonically rich humbucker voice with excellent note separation and responsive dynamics. The result is a versatile medium-output neck pickup with warmth, clarity and an exceptionally musical response.
