Pickup Character

Exceptionally open and dynamic vintage-style single coil with fast attack, sparkling upper harmonics and tight low-end response. The strong AlNiCo 5 magnetic field and high Q factor create an energetic, articulate voice with bell-like clarity, expressive touch sensitivity and inspiring note separation across the entire fretboard.

Strong Character
Magnet density (mT) describes the magnetic field strength at each pole and how the pickup interacts with the strings.

Different magnet types have different ranges (e.g. Alnico ~30–65 mT, Ceramic ~60–90+ mT), and some variation is normal — even within the same pickup.

Typical pole-to-pole variation is ~5–15 mT.

Spread describes this:
Lower spread → more even response
Higher spread → more character and dynamics

Slugs → smoother field
Screws → more focused response

This pickup represents an extremely authentic and well-balanced late-'70s Fender-style single coil design, combining classic Strat openness with unusually strong dynamic behavior and harmonic clarity. The electrical values align very convincingly with a genuine vintage-output AlNiCo 5 platform optimized for articulation, immediacy and musical responsiveness. The 5.74 kΩ DC resistance and 2.06 H inductance place the pickup firmly in classic vintage Strat territory, while the relatively high unloaded resonant frequency around 4.38 kHz preserves outstanding top-end openness and string definition. This gives the pickup its highly expressive “glassy” character, where pick attack remains immediate and harmonics bloom naturally without losing low-end precision. One of the most impressive characteristics is the exceptionally high Q factor of 4.6 in no-load conditions. This indicates a very efficient resonant peak with excellent energy retention and minimal damping inside the coil structure. In practice, this translates into remarkable note separation, vivid transient response and a very “alive” playing feel. The pickup reacts instantly to picking dynamics and communicates subtle phrasing with exceptional sensitivity. The flat-pole AlNiCo 5 magnet structure contributes significantly to the tonal personality. The measured magnetic field strengths — reaching well above 100 mT on several poles — suggest a healthy and powerful magnetic charge with excellent string focus and impressive projection. The magnetic balance across the strings appears musically natural for a flat-pole layout, producing a wide, piano-like low end together with sparkling upper harmonics and strong fundamental clarity. The relatively low internal capacitance value of approximately 151 pF further supports the open and articulate high-frequency response. Resonance behavior remains highly stable across both 250k and 500k loading conditions, which points toward a very well-constructed coil geometry and controlled winding distribution. The full potting also appears extremely successful: the pickup retains outstanding liveliness and harmonic air while remaining controlled and focused. The estimated 42 AWG PE/HF winding and roughly 7000–8500 turn range fit the measured inductance and resonant behavior extremely well. This combination typically produces the highly recognizable late-'70s American Strat character: crisp attack, vocal high-end shimmer, deep dynamic range and exceptional clarity under both clean and edge-of-breakup settings. Overall, this pickup appears to be a remarkably musical and highly expressive vintage-style Strat single coil with exceptional responsiveness, harmonic richness and authentic late-'70s Fender character. It delivers a beautifully balanced combination of openness, precision, touch sensitivity and classic bell-like Strat articulation that feels immediate and inspiring in every register.
